Young people from around the world are encouraged to come to Hiroshima for this once in a life-time Hiroshima G7 Youth Summit. The summit will take place 25-27 April at the Hiroshima University campus. This ICAN summit is co-sponsored by The Center for Peace, Hiroshima University. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet with survivors, visit Hiroshima, and connect with others in advance of the G7 summit to be held in Hiroshima.
Visiting Hiroshima is a life-changing event. When a person has the chance to see the first city attacked with an atomic bomb, and meet those who miraculously lived through that horrific day, they can’t help but be moved to prevent any use of nuclear weapons, ever again. This three-day summit will provide an opportunity for young people to experience the power of Hiroshima, a city that embodies the hope for a world without nuclear weapons.
Summit participants will have the chance to learn about the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons and work together to influence the position of their governments.
Programme
The summit programme will include first-hand accounts of nuclear weapons survivors and the knowledge of renowned physicists, legal experts, political scientists, sociologists and economists. Hiroshima University will host the discussions, panels and workshops, and participants will have the opportunity to visit the renowned Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.
The programme will feature workshops and discussions on the impacts and politics of nuclear weapons, international law, gender and nuclear weapons, race and nuclear weapons, and more.
This Summit is sponsored and organized by ICAN, hosted and co-organized by The Center for Peace, Hiroshima University (CPHU), co-sponsored by ANT-Hiroshima, Soka Gakkai International (SGI), Peace Boat and supported by the City of Hiroshima. This is held in the series of the Hiroshima University 75+75th Anniversary Project.
